ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਚੀਨੈ ਕੋਈ ॥ ॥

Pocos son los que reconocen al Gurumukh. El Gurumukh, el sostenedor de la tierra, establece los dos pasos del Dharma, allí reside la Verdad. ||8||

ਦੁਇ ਪਗ ਧਰਮੁ ਧਰੇ ਧਰਣੀਧਰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਤਿਥਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੮॥ ॥

Los reyes practican el Dharma por ostentación. Atados por la esperanza, hacen donaciones. Sin el Nombre de Ram, la liberación no se alcanza; se cansan de realizar acciones rituales. ||9||

ਰਾਜੇ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਪਰਥਾਏ ॥ ॥

Realizan acciones rituales y piden liberación. La liberación se obtiene mediante la Palabra. Sin el Gurú y la Palabra, la liberación no se alcanza; se engañan a sí mismos con el apego al mundo. ||10||

ਆਸਾ ਬੰਧੇ ਦਾਨੁ ਕਰਾਏ ॥ ॥

El apego a Maya y el egoísmo no se abandonan fácilmente. Aquellos que se liberan realizan acciones verdaderas. Día y noche, inmersos en la devoción y la contemplación, su relación con Dios se fortalece. ||11||

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਥਾਕੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੯॥ ॥

Algunos realizan cantos, austeridades y peregrinajes a lugares sagrados. Como a Ti te place, así los guías. El obstinado y avaro no se empapa de devoción; sin Hari y el Gurú, ¿cómo puede alguien encontrar honor? ||12||

ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਕਰਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਮੰਗਾਹੀ ॥ ॥

En la era de Kali Yuga, se ha preservado una virtud. Sin el Gurú perfecto, nadie la ha expresado. El egocéntrico vive en la falsedad; sin el Satgurú, la ilusión no desaparece. ||13||

ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹੀ ॥ ॥

El Satgurú es despreocupado e independiente. No teme a la muerte ni está atado a deseos. Quien le sirve se vuelve inmortal; la muerte no le causa angustia. ||14||

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਪਰਪੰਚੁ ਕਰਿ ਭਰਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥ ॥

El Creador ha puesto su propia esencia en el Gurú. Innumerables Gurumukhs han sido liberados. Él es el dador de vida a todos los seres, el Viviente del Universo, sin miedo y sin mancha. ||15||

ਮਾਇਆ ਮਮਤਾ ਛੋਡੀ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ ॥

Todos piden al Gurú, el Tesorero. Él mismo es inmaculado, invisible e infinito. Nanak dice la verdad: le pido a Dios, que me conceda la verdadera satisfacción. ||16||4||

ਸੇ ਛੂਟੇ ਸਚੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈ ॥ ॥

ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਰਤੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਬਣਿ ਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥ ॥

Uniéndonos a la Verdad a través de la Palabra...

ਇਕਿ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਵਹਿ ॥ ॥

Some chant and practice intensive meditation, and take cleansing baths at sacred shrines of pilgrimage.

ਜਿਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਚਲਾਵਹਿ ॥ ॥

They walk as You will them to walk.

ਹਠਿ ਨਿਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਅਪਤੀਜੁ ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਨਿ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥ ॥

By stubborn rituals of self-suppression, the Lord is not pleased. No one has ever obtained honor, without the Lord, without the Guru. ||12||

ਕਲੀ ਕਾਲ ਮਹਿ ਇਕ ਕਲ ਰਾਖੀ ॥ ॥

In the Iron Age, the Dark Age of Kali Yuga, only one power remains.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਭਾਖੀ ॥ ॥

Without the Perfect Guru, no one has even described it.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕੂੜੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥ ॥

The self-willed manmukhs have staged the show of falsehood. Without the True Guru, doubt does not depart. ||13||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ਸਿਰੰਦਾ ॥ ॥

The True Guru is the Creator Lord, independent and carefree.

ਨਾ ਜਮ ਕਾਣਿ ਨ ਛੰਦਾ ਬੰਦਾ ॥ ॥

He does not fear death, and He is not dependent on mortal men.

ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੋ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਸੰਤਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥ ॥

Whoever serves Him becomes immortal and imperishable, and will not be tortured by death. ||14||

ਗੁਰ ਮਹਿ ਆਪੁ ਰਖਿਆ ਕਰਤਾਰੇ ॥ ॥

The Creator Lord has enshrined Himself within the Guru.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਅਸੰਖ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥ ॥

The Gurmukh saves countless millions.

ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਕਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥ ॥

The Life of the World is the Great Giver of all beings. The Fearless Lord has no filth at all. ||15||

ਸਗਲੇ ਜਾਚਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ ॥ ॥

Everyone begs from the Guru, God's Treasurer.

ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰੀ ॥ ॥

He Himself is the immaculate, unknowable, infinite Lord.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਾਚੈ ਮੈ ਦੀਜੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਰਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੪॥ ॥

Nanak speaks the Truth; he begs from God. Please bless me with the Truth, by Your Will. ||16||4||

ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ ॥

Maaroo, First Mehla:

ਸਾਚੈ ਮੇਲੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ ॥

The True Lord unites with those who are united with the Word of the Shabad.

ਜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਣਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥ ॥

When it pleases Him, we intuitively merge with Him.

ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਜੋਤਿ ਧਰੀ ਪਰਮੇਸਰਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ ॥

The Light of the Transcendent Lord pervades the three worlds; there is no other at all, O Siblings of Destiny. ||1||

ਜਿਸ ਕੇ ਚਾਕਰ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ॥ ॥

I am His servant; I serve Him.

ਸਬਦਿ ਪਤੀਜੈ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵਾ ॥ ॥

He is unknowable and mysterious; He is pleased by the Shabad.

ਭਗਤਾ ਕਾ ਗੁਣਕਾਰੀ ਕਰਤਾ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੨॥ ॥

The Creator is the Benefactor of His devotees. He forgives them - such is His greatness. ||2||

ਦੇਦੇ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਸਾਚੇ ॥ ॥

The True Lord gives and gives; His blessings never run short.

ਲੈ ਲੈ ਮੁਕਰਿ ਪਉਦੇ ਕਾਚੇ ॥ ॥

The false ones receive, and then deny having received.

ਮੂਲੁ ਨ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਨ ਰੀਝਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੩॥ ॥

They do not understand their origins, they are not pleased with the Truth, and so they wander in duality and doubt. ||3||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਗਿ ਰਹੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤੀ ॥ ॥

The Gurmukhs remain awake and aware, day and night.

ਸਾਚੇ ਕੀ ਲਿਵ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਜਾਤੀ ॥ ॥

Following the Guru's Teachings, they know the Love of the True Lord.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸੋਇ ਰਹੇ ਸੇ ਲੂਟੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਬਤੁ ਭਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੪॥ ॥

The self-willed manmukhs remain asleep, and are plundered. The Gurmukhs remain safe and sound, O Siblings of Destiny. ||4||

ਕੂੜੇ ਆਵੈ ਕੂੜੇ ਜਾਵੈ ॥ ॥

The false come, and the false go;

ਕੂੜੇ ਰਾਤੀ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥ ॥

imbued with falsehood, they practice only falsehood.

ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੇ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਧੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੫॥ ॥

Those who are imbued with the Shabad are robed in honor in the Court of the Lord; the Gurmukhs focus their consciousness on Him. ||5||

ਕੂੜਿ ਮੁਠੀ ਠਗੀ ਠਗਵਾੜੀ ॥ ॥

The false are cheated, and robbed by the robbers.

ਜਿਉ ਵਾੜੀ ਓਜਾੜਿ ਉਜਾੜੀ ॥ ॥

The garden is laid waste, like the rough wilderness.

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਸਾਦਿ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਸਰਿਐ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੬॥ ॥

Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, nothing tastes sweet; forgetting the Lord, they suffer in sorrow. ||6||

ਭੋਜਨੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਆਘਾਈ ॥ ॥

Receiving the food of Truth, one is satisfied.

ਨਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਸਾਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ ॥

True is the glorious greatness of the jewel of the Name.

ਚੀਨੈ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸੋਈ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੭॥ ॥

One who understands his own self, realizes the Lord. His light merges into the Light. ||7||
